I'm now trying to figure out what she did. I don't know how to open the messages.db file. There are several files with db at the end. I need to open them. Is there any software that could open it?

Since it says in your profile your on 4.2.1 you need to find someone with an ios 5 idevice to put that into. Then that person can swap her db with theirs and they can then read the messages.
Edit, also im pretty sure the name of the db is actually sms.db located in /var/mobile/Library/SMS/sms.db
Edit2: also, is this the stock messages.app? not a 3rd party one like textfree or textplus?

It is called that. it would make my life easier if there is a certain software that could open those type of files.

See if this works:
http://sourceforge.n...latest/download
If it doesn't, tell me what app this *.db file is from.

if the file is from a 4.x device it can be read on a 4.x or 5.x device.. havent tried to see a 5.x db on a 4.x device but it probably wouldnt work.. theres a program called tansee (i think) that can open them but it reads it from your device so im not sure if it would work by just putting the file on ur phone and trying it without launching the sms app so it doesnt reset the file.. also this was on 4.x i did this... not sure if its been updated for 5.x..

It somewhat works. It does not show the messages though. I even tried on Safari history. Nothing.

the original sms.db is /var/mobile/Library/SMS/sms.db and in IOS5 it also has 2 other file sms.db-wal and sms.db-shm and then the Parts (mms) and Drafts directory's.. copy only the sms.db and delete anything else so thats the only file in SMS.. set permissions mobile:mobile 0700 and reboot the device.. for me when i put a 4.x sms.db on a 5.x device its unresponsive for a min or two then it resprings.. i cheked and the log reads its because the sms.db is an 11 format database and expected format 19.. rebuilding.. takes a while but after the respring its just like normal

UnlimitedSms.app is known as "TextNow" on the appstore.

So sms.db ownership has to be set to mobile and I need to delete sms-db-shm and sms.db-wal?

How about the Drafts folder with the messages.plist?
